Yes. Therapy is confidential, which means what you share in sessions stays private. Protecting your privacy is an essential part of creating a safe and trusting therapeutic space.

There are a few legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality, such as concerns about immediate safety (harm to yourself or others), abuse of a child or vulnerable person, or if records are legally required by a court. If these situations ever arise, your therapist will discuss them with you clearly and respectfully.

Your comfort and trust matter, and confidentiality is always explained in detail during the first session.

The first session is a chance to get to know each other and begin building a foundation of trust. It’s not a test, and there’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with.

During your first session, you can expect:

  • A conversation about what brought you to therapy

  • Time to share any concerns, goals, or questions

  • An overview of how therapy works and what to expect moving forward

  • Space to see how it feels to talk with your therapist

Some people feel relieved after the first session, others feel emotional or unsure—any reaction is okay. Therapy is a process, and the first session is simply the beginning.

All sessions are conducted virtually through doxy.me which is a HIPAA compliant platform. You can access the platform through your phone or computer. You will need access to cellphone or internet service to complete your session.

Telehealth therapy follows the same professional, confidential standards as in-person therapy, with a few practical considerations to help sessions run smoothly and feel supportive.

You’ll want to join from a private, quiet space where you feel comfortable speaking openly. This might be a bedroom, home office, or another place where you can minimize interruptions.

It’s completely okay to:

  • Sit on a couch, bed, or comfortable chair
  • Have water, tea, or a blanket nearby
  • Take notes or pause if you need a moment

You should ensure that you are fully-dressed and that you are not under the influence at the time of your session. You don’t need to dress a certain way or have a perfectly quiet environment—therapy meets you where you are.

Your therapist will also:

  • Join from a private, secure location
  • Review confidentiality and safety at the start of care
  • Help you troubleshoot any technical issues with patience

If something comes up—such as a poor internet connection, unexpected noise, or the need to switch to audio—your therapist will work with you to adjust.

Telehealth therapy is designed to be flexible, accessible, and supportive. Many clients find it allows them to feel more at ease and consistent with care, especially when navigating busy schedules or limited access to in-person services.

Unfortunately due to Telehealth regulations, the client must live in New York and be in New York at the time of their session. If you have booked a session but you will be traveling out of state, you will need to reschedule your session. Please note sessions should be rescheduled at least 72 hours in advance.

Many people wonder if they’re “ready enough” for therapy. The truth is, there’s no perfect time to start.

You might be ready for therapy if:

  • You’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally drained

  • You notice patterns that keep repeating in your life or relationships

  • You want support, clarity, or change—even if you’re not sure what that looks like yet

  • You’re tired of carrying things on your own

You don’t need to be in crisis or have everything figured out. Curiosity, openness, or even uncertainty are enough to begin.

Casa Sana Therapy works with adults (18 and older) seeking individual or couples therapy. Services are designed to support adults navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, life transitions, relationship concerns, identity exploration, and emotional well-being.

At this time, Casa Sana Therapy does not provide therapy services for children or teens. If you’re looking for support for someone under 18, we encourage you to seek a provider who specializes in working with younger clients..
